About Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation

Funding $50.650 million in grants during its 32 year history, giving over 568 grants to community-based organizations, the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation has funded three groundbreaking Signature Programs as well as projects designed to improve, preserve or restore the health and healthcare of people in Miami-Dade County.

The School Health Initiative, Department of Human Genetics, and Biomedical Nanotechnology Institute are investments in transforming healthcare for our community today and for generations to come. The results are significant:

  • more than 15,000 young students have received healthcare they would have gone without
  • families battling diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s are now hopeful thanks to breakthroughs funded by the Foundation’s support
  • early detection of disease, targeted delivery of specialized treatments, and restoration of tissue and organ function are now possible with the unmatched potential of nanotechnology.

Beyond the Signature Programs, the Foundation’s investment in community-based groups and organizations has supported scholarships for nursing and medical students as well as hundreds of programs and projects to improve our community’s good health.

The good work of Dr. John T. Macdonald and his colleagues—pioneers in the Greater Miami medical community— is living on for many generations to come.
